Fanny is truly a heroine in this novel, but if you’re not careful, you’ll miss that depth of character and mistake it as spineless fear, especially in this abrupt day in age.  In this novel, Jane Austen proves through her excellent, hard to beat character descriptions, how the verses about being slow to speak, and wisdom being in listening, are truly examples of wisdom and prudence.  I love cheering for her characters but also notice none of them make it past the marriage proposal or very far past this.  Is this part of the adage about not writing about what you don’t know?  I don’t know this but I do know I am blessed every time I pick up an Austen book again and this cold winter was just the perfect time to enjoy her and grow again with Fanny and the gang.
