I loved talking about Catch-22 with others, because while it did not improve my implicit dislike of the text, I found that there were others with opinions of it that reminded me to look for the deeper meaning behind the rubble. The conversation in our book club was riveting; we tackled war issues such as “shell-shock syndrome/PTSD”, meaning in pain, appropriate ways to discuss certain offensive topics, virtue, cowardice, patriotism and whether there is such a thing as goodness, beaurocracy, and hope. We also talked about media agenda and how to world is shaped by earthquake books like this one was, for better and for worse. Very good and helpful discussion. The goal of the last blog entry was met. Meaning found.
