Over the past few months, Jack has developed a desire to copy his siblings’ every action. One thing that strikes me as particularly amazing is that although he is still clueless about what they are really talking about at times, he follows along with almost everything they do, particularly when they get excited and laugh about something.
In fact, when they laugh, scream and shout, because perhaps they found out one of their favorite people will be coming over, and their voices carry to hearty levels of joy, Jack simply and fully joins them in the laughter, the jumping, and the ear-piercing screams! He can go from 0 to 10 on a scale of sadness to joy, in a matter of a second, and I love it.
If only I could take his example and make that shift as quickly. I think I’ll try – who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Someone very boring probably! It’s little joys like these that make being a mom the best job I have ever had, hands down. Not that I don’t need a sit-down meal, an adult conversation, and some space each night from the little darlings (wishful thinking), but really, my days could not be fuller than when fully spent marveling over these little joys that make me smile, no, that make me laugh if I will remember to let go for a minute and take part in this strange but wonderful behavior.
(Will post a pic of my kids doing this next time it happens!)
